The Makeup I've Been Loving

Ever since the weather took a cooler turn I’ve been enjoying wearing much more makeup again. I’m no longer desperately trying to keep any scraps of makeup from melting off my face in London’s scorching summer, and sitting down to apply it doesn’t make me feel sweaty and uncomfortable. It’s a new season and with that comes some new makeup trends (although I rarely pay attention to these) and a wealth of new inspiration. My makeup is still lightweight and natural, but I’m more inclined to apply a little more and play around with some colour that I have been recently.

The Ordinary Foundation

This has been my go-to foundation for some time and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere soon. The formula is very lightweight, think Armani Mastro, and blends in beautifully. It has an extensive shade range that encompasses cool, neutral and warm tones. It applies well with a buffing brush or sponge but personally I find my fingers the easiest way to apply. On me it lasts all day (although I do set everything with the Urban Decay Setting Spray) and is hardly detectable on the skin. It gives a beautiful radiance to the skin and offers some coverage to spots and discolouration, although it’s definitely a lighter coverage and I often need to pair with a concealer.

Talking of concealers, the Maybelline Eraser Eye has been my favourite for the past few months. The applicatior fits under the eye perfectly, the twist up means you never used too much and it offers a good amount of coverage to dark circles and spots. It is radiant but not too reflective and lasts well. Honestly, the shade range isn’t great with only 10 shades avalbile and these don’t seem to cover very light or dark skin tones however given the recent expansion (I think there were only one or two before) hopefully they will continue to offer a wider shade range soon.

L’Oréal Paris Paradise Lash Mascara

It was one of the most popular mascaras of the summer and since I picked it up I can see why. From the get-go it wasn’t too wet, it built brilliant volume and even stood the test of 95% humidity in Bali without smudging or running. The bristle head is big and full, grabbing each lash to get plenty of product onto them. It lasts all day and builds beautifully so a little can give you a more subtle look but it can be built up for a full impact look. If you’re strictly looking for a very natural mascara then this one probably isnt for you but if you love thick and full lashes then this is the one.

Bobbi Brown Semi Matt Lipsticks

This latest lip launch from Bobbi Brown brings with it a whole new host of semi-matte shades. They’re not quite as matte and heavy as a normal matte lipstick, in fact you can easily forget that you’re wearing it at all. I have chronically dry lips so I still find they are slightly more comfortable for me if I apply a tiny bit of lip balm first, but if that isn’t a problem for you it’s probably not a necessary step. The shade Semi-Nude is perfect for this time of year, a slightly warmer nude with a matte hint that leaves it right on trend for a very modern lip look.

There’s so much makeup out there and even though I feel like I have recently really found my makeup comfort zone and everyday style it doesn’t mean that I don’t love experimenting with new products and brands. As the seasons continue to change I will likely inject a little more colour with warmer eyeshadows and deeper lip shades but these items are providing me with a strong base to experiment from.
