How To Achieve The Golden Summer Eye
Every season the trends change up just a bit here and there but there are some that come around again, year after year, without fail. A simple golden eye is one of my favourite to create and during the warmer weather it's my daily go-to. It instantly perks up my mood and with a bit of a tan I think it's one of the prettiest looks for the summer. There are so many golden hues available, no matter what your skin tone you will be able to find one that works for you, and with more formulas than ever before there's bound to be one that works for you, the look you want to achieve and your lifestyle. The YSL Full Metal Shadows are some of my favourites products to create a golden eye look with, particularly shade 11. The formula is so lightweight that you can hardly feel it on the eyelids. Once applied they set within a few seconds so be sure to do one eye at a time and build up the colour whilst blending for the perfect look. Shade 11 is more of a deep gold with more shimmer than glitter whereas shade 4 is more of a champagne-gold. The formula remains the same but this is paler with a much more glittery effect on the lids. Both work well with and without a primer, either worn alone or over the top of other shadows and once they set they will stick around for 12+ hours.
For something simple and quick to apply the Lancome Ombre Hypnose Stylo in Or Inoubliale is ideal. The shadow stick can be swiped across the lids for a quick dose of colour, again this is more of a champage-toned gold but isn't as glittery as the YSL Full Metal Shadow and doesn't set quite so quickly so you have more time to play and blend. This is also beautiful on the inner corners & lower lash line and comes with an in-built sharpener so you can achieve the most precise look. To acheive a bightern more golden look build up the colour further by re-applying or layer over another shadow for a shimmering top coat.
There are plenty of traditional eyeshadow formulas on the market that will help you to achieve this summer look. Warm golden tones can be found in the majority of palettes, from high street to high end. Two of my favourites are from MAC and cater to whatever my mood is on that day. Soba is a much-loved semi-matte shadow. This subtle colour can be built up on the lids to give a soft warm look to the lids but with a very subtle shimmer. It's flattering but if you aren't into high-shine, super pigmented golds then this is an easy way to dip your toe into the trend on an everyday basis. For something more high-impact and bright Amber Lights is the perfect option. This golden shade is almost orange and, as with many MAC shimmer shades, the colour deepens as you work this into the lid to reveal a more burnt orange shade. Applied with a damp brush this shade is even more impactful and looks stunning no matter your eye colour. Both are easy to apply and blend with strong pigments and a formula that will last well throughout the day without a high level of fall-out.
Pick your favourite golden eyeshadow and pair with laid-back skin, bronzer and super black lashed with a slick of nude gloss for the perfect low-key yet sophisticated summer look. The end result is minimal effort, doesn't require a whole load of products but still lets you embrace the summer trends and enjoy the warmer weather.
