Stepping Out Of Your Comfort Zone
When it comes to style I'm very much a monochrome with a hint of grey/navy/khaki kinda girl. Not an awful lot of colour goes on in my wardrobe, I know what suits me and I like to stick to it. I always opt for the "sensible" colour that I will get the most wear out of but I decided it was time for a little bit of colour and to step out of my comfort zone a bit.
The bright red was totally different for me - no monochrome in sight! It was the colour that initially attracted me to the piece, it's so bright that it makes enough of a statement on its own, you don't need to pair this with lots of other accessories. The cut is classic, a high-waisted wide leg trouser with a cropped over hanging front section with a high neck line. I adore the back of the jumpsuit. It's totally open but the overlay of fabric means you don't feel as though you have too much on show. It adds a little more interest and sexiness to an otherwise "sensible" outfit. It's well tailored so is flattering on the figure. The only thing to bear in mind is that all underwear shows underneath. I decided to throw all caution to the wind in the end and go braless (with a little help from these) and opted for a pair of no-VPL pants. Definitely worth trying on and working out your underwear logistics in advance.
I'm obsessed with this jumpsuit. It was perfect for a graduation ceremony but I think I will get plenty of wear out of it in the future at weddings, christenings and any other more formal events. It was out of my comfort zone a little but it was fun to wear something different. If you want to step outbid your style comfort zone then here are my top tips.
Pick one thing to change
For me this was the colour but it could be the style, cut, pattern, anything. Changing up your look can feel intimidating so change one thing at a time. This means that you won't be put off wearing the item if it feels too much plus you're a lot more likely to wear it again in the future as it won't be too extreme and will probably still be incorporated into your wardrobe.
Make sure it fits well
It doesn't matter about the colour, the style or the pattern of the item, if it doesn't fit well then you'll never feel confident in it. Once you've decided how you want to step outside your comfort zone make sure that you select an item that still fits you well and flatters your figure. No matter how you change up your wardrobe or your style ensuring that something is a good fit is always important and will always make you feel more confident, even if it is different for you.
Don't spend the Earth on something you'll only wear once
It's worth opting for something a little more affordable if the item in question is something that is outside of your normal style. It's great to experiment with style but you don't want to spend a weeks wages on something that is too different for you and is simply left hanging in your wardrobe, tags on, making you feel a pang of guilt every time you look at it. Spend less on the "out-there" pieces and you can always invest more at a later date if you decide you actually love it.
Don't worry about the others
Easier said than done, I'll admit, but it's key if you want to feel confident in stepping out of your comfort zone. Most of the time you'll be the only one who knows you're dressed differently to normal, the passer by on the street won't have a clue that you don't normally wear skirts or you usually avoid mixing your prints. Plus, I can promise that they don't care. Just enjoy wearing something that's different and have fun with it.
It's important to have fun with your style and experiment with different looks. Your style is constantly evolving and it's always good to hit refresh and get some fresh inspiration. This may not be the start of me constantly wearing bold colours but either way it's a gorgeous piece and a little fun.
